Help How do I associate file type with app?

Mike75

Newbie
Have a Samsung Galaxy On5 android phone running Marshmallow with a 64GB SD card installed. Have podcasts in the .mp3 format loaded in the SD card.

Using ES File Explorer (or the Samsung "My Files" app), I navigate to a mp3 file in the SD card. When I tap it, five apps are listed that can play mp3 files. But the one I want to use, the Ginkgo Audiobook Player, is not listed. How can I associate the Ginkgo player with mp3 files so it will be included in the list of apps to use?

I don't want the Ginkgo player to be the default player for mp3 files. I just want it to appear on the list of players when I tap a mp3 file.

Thanks,
Mike75

such solutions do not exist. The system does not associate Ginkgo plaer as an audio player, so it is not listed. Write to developers to play-market feedback and expected - only they can tell that something sensible.

Oh too bad it's not like Windows that allows the user to decide associations.
Thanks for your help,

As centurion said, the devs need to add this ability. Out of interest why do you want to open the mp3s in this way? The reason I ask is that you can open mp3s from within the app via its built in browser?

Yes, I've been using the app to open the mp3 files. But I'm just used to looking at the contents of folders using an explorer app in Windows and my phone. If I decide to play a podcast, I wanted to play it using my audio book player from where I happened to be already. If it was possible, it would just be more convenient.

Since it's not possible, I'll continue to open it from the app. Thanks.

I know what you mean. I have tried a few ways for you and unfortunately the app does not appear at all.

Take a look, instead of choosing the Music option when trying to open the mp3 from within ES, choose All (or closest to it, I us solid explorer). This should show almost all of the possible apps you can open, yet still ginkgo does not show! Give the devs a poke.
