Help How do i backup my phone?

i just installed Kies on my laptop, and i wanna update my phone but it says i have to backup my phone, or some stuff might be deleted or something. I don't know what backup is and i don't know how to do it.. lol

KIEs can only backup your calendar, contacts and sms (not too sure about the last one actually). Everything else will be lost. (You might be able to backup notes too, but you won't be able to restore it.)

Non pre-installed apps can be backed up using Astro File Manager. But for the rest you will need to root your phone and use titanium backup.

titanium backup is available in the market , but you need to root first
