How do I backup my settings/apps/files for a factory reset?

I'm going to do a factory reset because I heard people who did it and managed to get a bit more of battery time (after having upgraded to a new Android version).

I bought my Nexus S about a week ago, and had to upgrade from 2.3.3 to 2.3.6, so I'm curious to see if this will do anything.

Note that it isn't rooted, so I don't know what choices I have available...

If you sync your contacts, calendar, etc., then all that info is already backed up online with your google account, including contact photos. The apps you bought are linked to your google account too, so you can reset as often as you want and you will always have paid apps available. Free apps can be downloaded and installed again whenever you want.

A factory reset does not delete the contects of the internal "sd card" memory on the Nexus S, so unless you select the option to erase everything, photos, videos, ringtones, etc. will not be deleted. If you decide you want to wipe it all, then just drag & drop the files you want to keep from your phone onto your computer, and put them back after you reset.

I don't use any kind of backup app, I just do the above if I need to reset.

there is a app that restores all settings and app+settings onto any droid ,but you have to be rooted :( [anyway it's called Titanium Backup]
