How do I conserve data?

Moto Droid Razr, ICS 4.04

1. Why are the processes "maps" and "weather" always in the apps that are running? I have no weather widgets or apps going nor do I have any map app that I use either.

2. I have a monthly limit on data. What settings or lack of a better word do I need to fix to make it to where junk isn't using data in the background and or how do I limit apps that start themselves and run in the background?

I had the original Droid by Motorola and had it a couple months before I got rid of it. I've had this Razr for a couple months now so any tips, tricks, hints or help at all would be appreciated.

This thread is for general ICS help.. not Razr help btw.

I'm getting another Razr this week that will have ICS as its stock os. What should I do with it when I turn it on relating to my concerns mentioned above?

Thanks!

I down-loaded 'Data Switch' on my wife's and my Droid Razar's.
We cut Data 'On', as needed.
We keep background data turned off unless we need it...
(Worked for us)

To help the batteries...
After I updated our phones to ICS, I downloaded 'App 2SD Pro'
to clear our Cache's... (Worked for us)

Turn your background data off unless necessary.

I also use AutomateIt. It allows me to turn my data off when the screen isn't on. Saves a ton of battery too.

Perhaps you mean 1tap cleaner because app2sd doesn't clear app cache for me. I'm such a noob that I don't understand how clearing it helps anything.

I use Connection Manager mentioned above to turn on/off mobile data. Is there an app or widget to turn on/off background data?

I also have a limit of about 2,000 GB for the cycle. I use my data daily for FB, Youtube, GPS, Maps etc and at the end of my cycle I barely used less than half of that and I like I said that's using it daily so I wouldn't really worry about it but I agree definatly turn off backround data. One other tip is go to battery and data manager and go to DATA SAVER or what ever it may be called on you're phone not sure if its the same as my droid and check on Data saver so you have a green check that's what I did and I'm saving quite a a bit, or try even using wifi as often as possible it'll also help you safe you're data. Hope this helped
