Hi

I amvery in love with my new nexus, its just what i need for keep studying!

I have a list of "issues" that i will be posting from time to time, i say "issues" because probably manyare due my lack of knowledge (i am kind old fashioned)...

Hopefully to get your help!

Well... This time..
You know.. When you connect an usb device.. You have an option to safely remove, just a right click and "eject"...
Usually my devices use to last twice and triple other peoples's devices last (i really take care of my devices, i love the feeling when you need them most, if you care them they will give you back )
And with this device i want to doit right, someone have toldme that just wait any file transfer finish and just unplug it... I dont feel it ok doing so, because you know.. Many times devices are still transfering some data and unless there is a transfer indicator... You can see it... And i wouldnt like that to happen to me when unpluging my nexus...

What du you suggest me guys?
(Sorry for the essay 😆)

I'll always eject it properly.

There are probably people who just unplug who say it won't cause any harm to the device (and in 99.99% of cases it won't), but for all the time it takes, there's certainly no harm in doing it right.

My Windows 7 home premium doesn't give me the option to "eject" my n7 or my n5. Don't remember on my n4 or 2012 n7. It does give the option on USB drives.

Safe Eject just makes sure that anything that hasn't been written to the tablet is written to it before you get the notice that you can remove it. (Windows can do a "write behind" to speed things up - it queues up what has to be written, but only writes when it's not doing something else.)

If you haven't done any writing to the tablet you can just unplug it.

You may also find that if you've run anything on the computer that uses adb, ejecting will tell you that you can't eject the tablet because some program is using it. Adb doesn't "get out of the way" when you're finished with it, so it's still "connected" to the tablet, and you have to run Task Manager to kill adb before ejection works. But if you haven't written anything to the tablet it's a huge waste of effort.

(I still have 256MB cards [MG, not GB] that I've read from and removed without "safely eject" many times, and they still work. (Even though, with today's file sizes, they're about as useful as button hooks. I don't know where my 32MB flash drive is right now [probably still packed away in the garage], but the last time I plugged it in it still worked, and I yanked that out many times "unsafely" when I only read from it.)

In my experience (read that as "according to my luck"), reading from the nexus... unplugging won't damage it...

Writing to it, on the other hand, can damage it.

I agree with th OP in questioning the Windows behavior in not giving the option.

Likewise, I'm anal about my tech. I remove the device in Device Manager. I hear the disconnect sound, and unplug.

Now if only.... I wish my N7 chimed when it was safe to remove a USB drive from IT. ;)

I'm also a new owner. Please, by all means ask whatever you think of!

Good talk :)
