How do I create a Notification/Alert on Phone from Networked PC?

Hi,

Firstly, this forum has been a HUGE eye-opener to the potential of using a smart phone day to day, so a sincere thanks to all who participate. I can't imagine life without Llama now. :D

Essentially, I want to be able to send a packet of data from my PC, and have it pop up as an alert on my phone via wifi. Something instantaneous, rather than have a delay through email.

I have a HTPC which has Vitamin D security camera software on it. The webcam is located at the front of my house, and is set to alert when anyone walks up my driveway. It'll also send a picture to my phone if I want, or I can watch the live video stream instead.

It can alert me with a sound or an email alert, but even a subtle sound is incredibly annoying (especially when guests are in the house - "What was THAT?!?!?") and by the time the email script runs, gets to the email server, and back to my phone, the doorbell has already rung or some kids have made off with my priceless garden gnome collection. :p

Is there any app out there which will do this? Or is there a simple method (like some sort of network instant message) which will achieve the same thing? Ideally I'd have it alert me and run another app to view the live stream, but I can accomplish that with Llama or Tasker.

TIA!

This seems like a simple question - I want to have an alert appear on my phone when a PC on the network sends a particular packet of data.

Not possible?:confused::confused::confused:

Use gmail push. It's fast for email and when you send it from same account to itself it's instant. Set a special notification for it then you know.
