i'm new to android development & am currently learning (another round of) java in preparation for app development.
my aim: to develop an app for controlling an rc car where the screen shows an FPV feed coming from a camera in/on the car & actual gaming buttons (knobs & sticks) on the android device are used to control the car AS LONG AS they're available (as they are on the archos gamepad, the JXD tablet, the nvidia shield, etc)
in other words, i'll buy an android gaming device WITH buttons once i know which one i can create an application for (which'll probably be the one that makes the process the easiest). i've seen someone do a similar thing to what i wanna do on youtube, except he used a sony PS vita (which as far as i know involves programming in c# or something. not for me!!)
my question is, how do i write code that responds to the buttons on these different devices??
as i say, i'm a newb, so i don't actually know where to look. i mean, do these devices use specially modified forms of android or something, with special classes you can make use of?? or what?
any advice pointing me in the direction to look for answers much appreciated
