Help How do I fix grey wavy line on start up screen OR other factory reset options?

Hi,

My wife's phone (my old Samsung Galaxy S3) has stopped working today. When it's powered on the screen shows grey wavy lines, see 1st link below.

I've taken out the battery, put it back in again and pressed volume up + the power button and I did get the factory reset screen (see 2nd link below) however it went no further i.e. nothing happened when I pressed the volume down or up button to select one of the options.

I tried replacing the battery with a newer one too. However, now I cannot even get back to the factory reset screen again. So, all I'm seeing now is the grey wavy lines on power up.

I have set-up the phone to save all the important data to the cloud i.e. via a Google account etc. So, I've no problem doing a full factory reset and losing the current data on the phone - if I could get to that option.

Is there any way to resolve this?

Is there another way to do a factory reset other that the way I described above?

Can I "flash the ROM" to reset? How would I do that?

Thanks for your help,

John

That actually looked like download mode (power, home and volume DOWN).
What you want for a reset is power home and volume UP :thumbsupdroid:

Hi funkylogik,

Thanks for your suggestion however it is still not fixed.

"power home and volume UP" does not reset the phone for me, I just get the wavy get lines again (1 st link above)

I was able get back to the"Warning" screen with your "download mode (power, home and volume DOWN" suggestion however when I press volume down button to "Cancel (restart phone)" it does nothing, when I press volume up to "Continue" it goes on to the "Downloading ..." screen but where it is downloading from? I can only assume it would download from a USB cable? But I don't want a custom OS. I restarted after sometime by taking out battery.

I should also state that I have not rooted or flashed a custom ROM to this phone ever.

Thanks,

John

You're going to have to Google "xda Odin guide" and learn how to reflash the stock firmware onto the phone and hope that works. Firmware is available at sammobile.com/firmware
Good luck
