Help How do I free up internal (non-SD) storage?

Here's the problem: I'm running a bit low on phone storage (down to 21MB). So far, I've moved as many apps as possible to my SD card (16GB). Also uninstalled some crapware that I don't use (SCVNGR, Twitdroyd, etc. -- or so I thought). Have also cleaned various caches. Thing is, I have even LESS internal storage space!

I downloaded an app called 1Tap Cache Cleaner. Freed up some space. That seemed to help. Also showed me that the crapware was still there. There are some apps I do use and would like on there that require internal storage (i.e. Facebook). Anyone got any ideas for freeing up some space? I'm trying to avoid rooting, but if I must, I must. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

First question how did you remove the pre installed apps, without rooting the phone, last i checked that is not possible, and no you will have to root the phone then duel partition the SD card, and use an app called Link2SD,you then will be able to link nearly every App to the card.

Uninstalled with an app called Android Assistant. Seems it just removed the updates to Twidroid, SCVNGR, etc. The programs are still more or less there. It was odd that when I 'uninstalled' them, internal memory shot up to 31MB remaining. Then it dropped down to the lower 20s (I did install a few new apps, including Opera Mobile, which I quicky moved over to the SD card (with App2SD). Seems there's still stuff there that hasn't moved and I still can't get to.

When I partition the SD card, will it be like a reformat, where everything is removed? I can back up the contents on the PC hard drive or a few DVDs. Something tells me that I may have to root the whole thing (I'll have to take a day or so to dedicate to it).

Thanks for the suggestions.

deleting some of your sms/mms threads will help with internal storage also, especially if you are sending/receiving pics

The only way to really get rid of the "crapware" is to root, use titanium backup or something similar to uninstall

Even if you do uninstall all the bloat you won't get any more user memory. All the bloat is stored in system memory, not in user memory. Uninstalling will not give you any more available user memory.

If u have Opera Mobile 11, cache has to be manually cleared from Opera Mobile's settings. I recovered 12mb from that. Thought I mention it if u haven't tried that already :)

interesting. i moved Opera Mobile 11 to my SD card, but i still went down from 70mb to 50mb on my phone storage. when i try to clear the cach manually, i don't see that option/it says there's no cache.

I moved Opera to the SD card. Is their cache stored on SD or in internal memory?

And yes, I do clean the cache quite often.

I did mean internal/system memory. Just don't want to run into problems if I have to update programs or if we get that Gingerbread update. That would get a little messy with so few resources left.

On Optimus V Applications> Manage Applications, the option to clear cache is greyed out and it shows 0.00B cache. Go to your Opera Mobile browser > Settings > Privacy > Clear cache.

@fightingirish Opera Mobile"s cache is stored in phone memory even after moving the browser to sdcard. U can always ask opera team about this on Opera Mobile for Android at this link:

Thank you syav, that worked! from what i read somewhere else too is that the internal storage isn't that important and that the phone will work fine even with only 10% left. i guess i'll just move what i can to the SD. i think i have most of the apps that i need anyway. :)

I have SGS2, The internal memory is 2gb originally . It starts to bloat after a system format and bloats all memory. I have tried almost every thing except root which I feel complicated to understand due to not so savy with all this .
I have formatted by now 5 times and getting sick with the problem by now
Its now 50-100 Mb , I see at least 250 mbs going up every day and in week it chokes up . Then even deleting any app or clearing cache does not work . Can the experts Please advise what may be wrong. On every hang up or glitch if it re-boots the internam memory even goes down by another 100-150 mb
Can any one help or else might need to replace my phone

Sorry ajayseth, this is a forum about the Optimus V. We have less internal memory to start than you're losing a day. You might want to look for the forum on here specifically for your device.
