Help how do i import from another phone?

hi

new to the M8, im coming from an htc one x, so no sd card in that for swapping over.

id like to.......

1. import notepad notes. if im on the one x and go to settings, it says 'export to sd card', but there is no sd card! how do i get all my notes onto the M8?

2. import or download 'nostalgia' ringtone. is that possible?

3. my one x was rooted and i used titanium backup. is that useless to me now that ive got an unrooted M8? i assume titaniums only good for saving to an sd card, but again, there is no sd card!!

anyone help me out please?

thanks :-)

had a look at those thanks, but none will allow me to transfer apps or data from apps, thats what im after really.

i tried the NFC touching phones together too, but that didnt work either.

thanks

The sd card on the One X is a folder that you can access from a pc - same thing on the M8, that includes an external (physical) sd card as well.

The Titanium Backup folder on the One X is there - copy it to the M8 courtesy of a pc in the middle.

ah, thanks, i like it........ are the folder names obvious?

will this be the same for apps? theres some on the one x that i cant seem to get any more (dolphin mini being one of them, no need for zooming each page on websites....)
so is there a folder with apk files?

can i connect the phone to pc and just copy everything, the whole phone? then i can safely factory reset for selling?

thanks a lot

If you want to move apps, use Titanium Backup, don't try for individual files.

Copy the entire contents of internal storage to the pc.

Copy the tibu or Titanium Backup folders to the M8.

o------kay........ i think i understand.......

ive just tried copying entire internal contents but pc just hung, so trying to do copy folders separately.

once ive dont that tho, i dont want to transfer them all tho do i? cos some will be htc one x specific?

do i just copy the titanium folder to M8, then d/load the titanium app from play store, open and it should find all the apps from the one x? i ask, as im sure i was told back in the day not to restore apps from titanium, only data. but if the apps arent available any more......?

thanks

I've suggested that you grab the entire thing because that can save you later if you've forgotten something.

Don't restore the phone id or settings unique to the One X.

Make sure that your backup does include the apks as well as data. They ought to restore without issue.

yep, i thought thats why you said that, that makes sense. unfortunately im not sure where the phone id or settings are anyway. im assuming you mean once ive transferred the titanium back up over, restore them from there with data? the apk's arent sat in a folder somewhere waiting for me to restore?

thanks again

Phone id and settings are separate backup items in Titanium Backup.

The Titanium Backup folder will have the apps in a compressed, manageable form with data, provided you back up apps and data.

just had a look at installing the titanium app ready for transferring the backup folder over. its called titanium backup*root, and wont install, it comes up with an error. is this because the M8 isnt rooted? do i need it installing from the play store first, or will purely putting the backup folder on my M* be good enough?

this just isnt working for me mate :-(

installed helium on phone and pc, pc says i need drivers, ive installed drivers AND the htc sync but it still says drivers werent installed properly......

helium on phone is just hanging waiting to be connected but the desktop isnt connecting to it. im not clever enough to sort this.

surely theres an easier way of trying to get an app and a bit of back up from one phone to another??

thanks for sticking with me.

EDIT: ive got as far as connecting old phone and backing up apps to 'internal storage'as thats all it would allow without paying. is that any good to me? it just implies ive made a backup on te old phone, but i dont know how to get it to new phone. the M8 just wont connect to helium.....

EDIT EDIT: bit puzzling why it wont connect to helium cos when iplug it into pc, the usual box comes up allowing me to browse files, import etc. so it must be recognised :-/

the two links on the http://clockworkmod.com/carbon page. clicked the windows drivers link, went to htc section and installed the recommended drivers, and also the sync software that the link suggests if it doesnt work.

EDIT: just been copying the whole internal storage from one x onto another pc, just to be on safe side. i notice a new 'carbon' folder with files linked to the apps i want to bring over. this must be the 'internal back up' that i did when i linked the old phone to helium.
dont spose if i copy that file straight over to M8 i could reinstal them from there? or do i definitely need the M8 linked to helium pc software?

Yeah, rooted Helium will use the internal storage, unrooted needs a pc.

Or you could root the M8 and just restore the Titanium or Helium backups, either way.

blimey, long time since i rooted a phone...... is it any easier these days? i assumed the newer the phone the harder it would be......

It's the same as before -

Visit HTCdev.com, get unlock token, input with fastboot on pc

Install TWRP custom recovery

Make stock backup with TWRP

Install SuperSU from TWRP

thanks, i may try that at a later date, for now tho, im getting weary and just want my apps moved over :-/

Yeah, rooted Helium will use the internal storage, unrooted needs a pc.
by that do you mean i can use that carbon backup from my pc to the M8 without linking to helium? could i copy and paste the folder into M8 and be able to 'extract' the apps?
btw, the most important app to me is dolphin mini browser. i havent seen any other phone browser that goes stright to perfect size text, all the others require zooming each page.

thanks again

ooooh thought i had it then, im getting closer!! :-)

M8 linked with helium, went to restore, chose One X but it said i needed premium. another alternative was internal storage but only from that phone.
can i copy the carbon folder over, then itd work from internal storage?

thanks

yeeeee ha, done it!! :-)

i did use the pc. used it to copy and paste the carbon folder from htc one x to pc, then pc to M8. then used the helium link to 'import from internal storage'. had a nasty moment when it said its only data, please instal app from play store cos i thought, 'oh no, i couldnt find the app when i searched for it!' but...... it went to play store and installed the apps. dont know how that happened!!

but anyways, im sorted. for now :-D thanks a lot, i appreciate the help.
