How do I join a Hangout from Calendar?

Hi,

I'm using an LG Tribute phone from Virgin Mobile with Android. In my Calendar app on Android, I can see a meeting that uses Google Hangouts. There is a link in the Calendar item taht reads "Use Hangouts". However when I click on the "Use Hangouts" link, Google Maps opens. What I would expect is for me to be able to join the meeting and interact with the participants. How can I do this from the Calendar?
