Help How do I know if tablet supports specific app

MeCasa

Lurker
I'm not a smartphone user by choice but I would like to buy a tablet to support two specific apps and I'm not sure these apps (especially wifi 104) is available on the tablet I like which is the Samsung Tab 4

The first app I need is ' WIFI 104 ' which will control the led lighting system in my aquarium
The second app is ' square ' which will allow me to accept credit cards for my window company

How do I know which device will accept both these apps?

Thanks
MeCasa :-)

WiFi-104 is certainly available for Android.

The other credit cards one, you'll likely have to check with your bank's merchant services for that. At the moment you've got a stand-alone or mobile EPOS terminal I presume.

I did talk to the square people and the Tab 4 is compatible so I'm good there.

BUT

I went to Best Buy and we tried going to the app store on the Tab 4 and WIFI 104 didn't come up? Since I'm not savvy on smartphone usage I didn't understand why it didn't come up and wasn't entirely sure that the Best Buy employee's 'not available' was right.

Thanks

I'm guessing that the app was just not specifically written to be compatible with tablets.

For example, here's what the Play Store shows for some of the devices I own:

As you can see, my 2012 Nexus 7 tablet is NOT compatible with the app, either.

I can't pull-down the app to examine it's AndroidManifest.xml file, but there are often settings in there that can end-up excluding certain devices because of screen size, density, etc..

+1, @KOLIO :).

I do think that if you do this, you won't be presented with any future updates for the app since it wasn't downloaded from the Play Store (you'll also have to enable "unknown sources" to be able to install the app like this)--i.e., you'll have to monitor updates for that app from your other device and repeat the transfer/install process...
