How do I know this won't suck

I used to have an HTC Evo 4G, and it was awful. I had it for a year, and I hated it very much. Battery always drained, terrible updates, etc.

Now my Wife wants an SG3. I wish she would get an iPhone 5 like me, but whatever. How do I know that the SG3 won't be terrible like the Evo was? Before you say, "It's such a great selling phone" blah blah blah, that doesn't mean Samsung will keep the updates coming.

I removed some profanity from your post, we're a forum read by folks of all ages and some of the content wasn't appropriate.

Android has come on leaps and bounds since the Evo 4G and Samsung has already released JellyBean to their unbranded handsets. I'm sure she won't be disappointed.

That being said, I'm sure SGS3 owners will be able to chime in with a bit more detailed info to allay your fears.

I used to have older Androids like the G1, Galaxy S, and MyTouch 4G and just got the S3 this year. It's a huge improvement over the Androids of the past. Better battery life, Ice Cream Sandwich is smooth and personally I enjoy Touchwiz. I used to own an iPhone 4 & 4S but didn't get good battery life like I do with the S3 (approximately 14-16 hours on average) I would recommend it.

As we say to the android folk here who want their wives to NOT get an iPhone, just let her get what she wants. She wants an iPhone? Let her. She wants an android? Let her. Its her lesson to learn rather than your lesson to teach

We are the first to get updates.... Sprint has jelly bean in the S3 already ...Sprint is trying to step is game up lately with updating their devices and you cannot compate the evo with the S3...is a way better phone...Trust me

If i was you I would buy her an Iphone5 because you have one too...If you get her a GS3 your going to look bad ....

Let's say that for whatever reason you don't like the GS3 How do you know that your wife won't like it? I don't like the iPhone, but my wife likes it.

I'm not worried she'll like the tiny details. I'm worried about updates, battery life being horrible. Crap like that.

My battery life is night and day with the SGS3 compared to my last Android phone. End of the day and I'm still >30% battery. The screen is absolutely to die for and its smooth. Should get even better with JB (I'm on VZW so we'll be the last to get it). Bottom line: This is the first Android phone that I have wanted to keep stock because it has been so perfect.

I agree with another poster though. If you let her get it, you'll look bad with the iPhone :) There *is* a reason why it is outselling the iPhone.

Updates are overrated. Long as the phone does what you want it to why worry about the updates. That said Samsung and the carriers are pushing out updates to Jelly Bean currently. I think it is probable we will get an update to Key Lime Pie or whatever they are calling the next thing.

As for battery life, all I can say is that for me it has been great. I can make it through a day with moderate use without needing to recharge till evening generally.

Battery life is fine for me. Most of the time it will last all day for me.

Regarding updates, JB is being pushed out this quarter. The exact timing depends on the carrier. Regardless, I'm still on ICS and I find that my phone is working well in spite of not having JB. I'm in no hurry to get JB. I think it is pretty awesome.

Battery life is on par with the iphone. I know this because I made the switch. Shouldn't she get a phone based on what it does now rather than what it may have with future updates?

What a great sentiment. It just made me realize that most bought the phone for what it is now, not what it will be on the future. If it does what I expected it to when I got it I shouldn't be ticked off about update delays. If you want JB now get something else. But then you'll be waiting for that phone to get KLP.

Well, after a LOT of reading, I got rid of my iPhone for an SG3... Back to Android for me I guess. I really like this so far.

My choice was between the SG3, and the Note 2.
Wife will be getting SG3 in less than 4 weeks hopefully.

There are a few threads here about people who ditched their iphones for S3's. You'll get many a tip from the ex-iphone community here

- Apple is suing Samsung because the SIII is a bigger, better iPhone (Apple's words, not mine; I wouldn't debase the SIII by likening it to an iPhone in any way)

- I had an Evo V 4G and I returned it to BBY and got an SIII--they are worlds apart

- Samsung is excellent with updates; your carrier, however, may be slow (VZW being known for being last)

- If you get her an iPhone and she doesn't like it, it's your fault; if she gets an Android and doesn't like it, it's not your fault
