Help How do I make my phone contacts gmail contacts?

I got my phone on Christmas but ended up losing my old number do to a screw up with Amazon wireless. Because I wanted all my friends to have the new number, I transfered all my contacts over to my new phone in a hurry (before I set up the proper google accounts) and thus didn't make them gmail contacts.

Now I realize I really wish I'd made them gmail contacts so I could keep them even if the phone gets damaged or destroyed. Is there any way to make the contacts saved on my phone gmail contacts without having to manually re-enter all 200+ into the phone?

There is a video on YouTube which describes how to do this. You need to export your contacts to SD card, and then re-import them while making them into Google contacts. You may need to delete the old contacts after exporting them, so importing them doesn't give you duplicate entries.
