Help How do I make sure the number pad works properly?

I just tried to call a number with options on a voice menu (i.e. "for customer service, please dial 5 followed by the hash key"). However, when I pressed Keypad, I got the keypad and dialed 5# but nothing happened. I have the PDF of the user manual but can't find anything in it that specifically addresses using the keypad while on a call.

Am I doing something wrong or is this not possible on the Galaxy S2??

Thanks for any info or advice.

Hello Kent. That can happen if dirt, grease, etc or the hand you're using to tap the number pad is partially obscuring the proximity sensor (the little detector meant to blacken the screen when the device is being held to your ear during calls).

Make sure the finger you use to tap is approaching the number pad from the bottom and not the top, just to avoid that accidental blocking of that sensor. ;)

Clean the top half inch or so of the screen often and thoroughly and see if that remedies the issue. If it does not, try going into Application Manager and clearing the phone app's cache (clear data too if you don't mind reconfiguring), then reboot.

Thanks Frisco. I don't think that was the problem (screen), but I'll try clearing the app cache next. I saw someone else with another similar problem and it was suggested to try a l-o-n-g press. I'll try that too.
