Help How do I prevent my S5 from joining open wifi networks automatically?

2tango2

Lurker
I'm coming from an iPhone 4s so still finding my way around this phone

One of the annoying things I've found is that it will join an open network automatically. Is there a setting to prevent this other than turning wifi off?

Verizon is carrier if that matters.

Thanks

That sounds like it wouldn't be very desirable. Sure it's not connecting to open WiFi that it already knows about, and not just any old WiFi that it happens to find? Suggest you check through the list of known APs, and delete anything you don't want the phone to automatically connect to, or are likely to be using again.

Often open WiFi in many places has landing pages and pay-walls, which means you could be losing internet access until you deal with whatever the AP wants or you disconnect from it.

Doh. .... you are absolutely right on old wifi it knows about...... when I copied over settings from my iPhone it also copied all the wifi spots. It was connecting to one's I totally forgot about

Too simple

Thanks!
