How do i recognize the sdcard?

I have a Motorola Droid mini. How do I know whether the sdcard is being recognized by my computer. I am able to see a file structure, but am unable to write to it. I am with Verizon.

If you can see it it is recognised.

I've no idea why you can't write to it though. I think we need to know more about the computer and how you are viewing it.
