How do I remove the clock/battery/signal banner?

How do I, or can I, remove the black banner at the top of my screen (the one that displays a clock/battery level/signal)?

Seems pointless to have it when I have a clock on my home screen and the other stuff isn't needed.

If you did that, you'd lose access to your notifications...

You can hide the notification bar in launchers like adw etc
