How do I replace stock widget on Home ?

Can I replace the stock text widget on the 4 corner start up screen, mine has Phone, camera, text, unlock ?

Yes. Click, hold and drag the stock widget away. Then go into the apps list, find the app you want in their, click, hold and drag into the dock.

how does one do that? the startup screen is long gone by the time we can access our apps on the home page, thus how do we retrieve it (the startup/lock screen) to click/drag/modify it?

Oops...my bad. I think you're actually talking about the unlock screen. If that's the case you can't change the apps.
 
Yes you can. I use GOSMS. Go to apps; manage apps;select text app; then disable (ignore warning).
Go back to lock screen and your chosen text application should be there.
