How do I save my current location using my phone ?

Hello, first of all I apologize if this thread does not belong here and second I have a question and I'm in dire need of an answer: I would like to know if there is a way of saving my current location on google maps using my phone. At this point I would like to mention that I am using a Samsung Galaxy S and my version of google maps is 6.4.0 . I've done some reading around and I've noticed that some people suggested starring the place but that only works if google knows the address of that certain location. I am interested in saving the location of an old fortress located in the middle of a forest and I was hoping someone could help me by explaining how can I do that using my phone while standing in the middle of that fortress.

A bit of a bodge, but I think it'll work.

Download the app GPS Status.

When running and has obtained location fix, press Menu, select Radar.

Press button to Mark location. It labels the location with the time that you marked it. click on Edit Target, and rename the label from the time stamp to something more appropriate, such as Fort...Then select option to view on map. Choose default map, then google Maps. Your location appears as a marker on the map, with the time of marking or the edited name as the label. Press on this, as you would a searched location, and Star it.

Hope this helps.

Turn on your phones GPS and use one of the many location sharing apps in the Market like Glympse. You can email or text message the location to yourself. Or use a waypoint app like Waypoint Free to save the location within the app and navigate back to it later

I dont think thats true at all. I can seemingly click random spots in Google Maps and star them, and the star goes to wherever I tapped.

That is not true. I starred the grave sites of family to make them easy to find when I visit them a year later.

You can create a navigation shortcut and give it a name like "Home", "Office" or "Aunt Tilley". It will be a separate icon that you can then click for instant directions. Then you can drag all your navigation shortcuts into a folder you create and you have a complete custom system.

To create the navigation shortcut:
- long click an empty spot on your page
- choose 'shortcut'
- choose 'Directions and Navigation'
- enter the address
- enter the shortcut name
- chose from the list of icons (i.e. map with home)
- click 'save'

To create a folder:
- long click an empty spot on your page
- choose 'New Folder'
A folder will be created with the name "folder"

To change the name of the folder
- click on the folder, which opens it
- long click on the header line
- enter a new name, such as "Maps" or "Locations"

Now you can drag your navigation shortcuts into your map folder.

what ive heard done before is turn on gps and in settings of your camera app theres an option to save the location. take a pic of your fortress and the picture will be embedded with your current location. then you can extract it with an app on your pc (cant think of it right off hand ill see if i can find it)

Edit: alternativly you can use one of those "find my car" apps in the market

Hey Guys well i think that the first time you activate my Location your web browser will display a security message asking you to share your location with Google maps.If you deny this request, where you are isn't shared with with Google maps and the my Location feature won't be induced. If you accept, your web browser will try to determine where you are. Thanks!!
