How do I set my default SMS?

I downloaded Handscent, a much better progam than the stock program on GB 2.3.5. Only thing is, I can tell its still using the factory message program that comes with android cause I get two notifications and the phone plays two different sounds. 1 sound for each program. I followed this guide:

How to Change the Default Application for Android Tasks - How-To Geek

But I don't have the "Clear Defaults" button like they do. All I have is clear data and force stop. What can I do to permanently change my default text messaging service to Handcent?

I'm using a captivate running 2.3.5 UK44 kernel btw.

The captivate has the clear data button. Open it in the manage apps screen where you can see the clear data button. Just scroll down. :-)

However this will not affect the notifications. To do that you go into the default message app settings and turn off notifications for the sms app.

In Handcent go to menu>settings>application settings>default messaging application. You can choose sms, mms, or all (sms & mms.)

Open your stock messaging app>settings>notifications and disable notifications.

Works for me.
