Help How do I stop seeing news cards in the Google Now widget?

JohnJSal

I used to never see this stuff, even if they sometimes appeared when I opened the app itself, but now my Google Now widget is getting cluttered with all kinds of random news stories.

I don't see any options to stop this. How can I?

Thanks.

It seems the setting for the cards (Google Now widget) is accessed via the Google screen that opens when you tap the card. I did not have the widget on my screen, so i did an upward swipe from the bottom to bring up the Google screen and also did it via the widget.
Once there, at the top left is the main settings icon. Tap that, and you can choose "customize" to add or remove different types of information Google will use to keep you updated (in your "stream").
You can also tap "Settings" instead and and look for "Now cards" to change how it works AND to turn on or off different categories of notifications.
Hope that helps

I've been to the settings and customizations but I don't see anything that shows that I want to see these news stories. There is nothing to turn "off."

I see under "Settings" a setting titled "Now Cards" and a section titled "Get Notified About" with on/off buttons for "Weather", "Commute and time to.. ","Sports","Stories and Videos" & "Places".
I don't know if turning off "Stories and Videos" will stop that, but it's something to try.

Hmm, there is no "Get Notified About" under my Settings > Now Cards.

Edit: Oh wait, it is there after I turn on "Notifications," but since this was already off, why am I seeing these things?

It seems it must be that "notifications" is NOT the same thing as seeing them in your widget?
I am not sure because it's been a week since i was using it, and removed the widget from my screen because i really didn't need it. I had ended up removing all the 'cards' and unchecking all the categories and reasonsed if i'd done THAT, it was not something i would use (for now).
Testing the results once you change a setting takes time because the app needs to gather info, but I seem to remember once i unchecked the "Stories & videos" they did not appear in the card widget, at least.
Hopefully someone who has used it a lot will chime in :)

One thing I can add is that sometimes the cards appear without my intervention, but usually what happens is that they don't appear in the widget until after I open the Now app. Once I see them inside the app, then when I go back to the widget on the homescreen, it is packed full of cards.

Like I said, sometimes they are already there in the widget, but if they aren't, opening the app (and having cards in it) will consistently end up putting them in the widget. It didn't used to do this, even if I did have cards in the app.
