How do I switch to 2G only

ImDaMan26

I just bought a new Sony Xperia Arc from Rogers and I'm wondering how I can switch my mobile network to only use 2G networks in order to save battery when needed. I used to be able to do it on my Google Nexus One but it seems the option is not available on the Arc under Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks. It used to be called something Use 2G networks. Is it not available on all Android phones including the Arc? Should I be looking elsewhere? I'm on Android 2.3.3

My Nexus wasn't rooted or anything and was operating on the latest 2.3.4 but I recall the option being available since 2.1 when I first got it over a year ago.

Thanks!

It should be under: Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>Network mode. Just choose "GSM only".

Cheers!

Thanks for that but unfortunately it seems to have dissapeared (or never existed) on my Arc. Does it have anything to do with Android 2.3.3 being SE branded on the Arc? Have you done anything special on yours to get that option to appear (root, custom rom)? It's available on my Nexus One on 2.3.4 and its not rooted or anything but that could be a Google feature.

Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately this appears to be network branding that has removed this as there is nothing in particular that you need to do to get this option.
