Help How Do I Take Swype Off My Evo?

How do I change my keyboard so that it goes back to the normal keyboard, rather than the Swype one?

I am not a fan of Swype. I am more of a two handed typer/texter, and I just want to go back to my old HTC keyboard.

I have tried Touch Input and trying to changing my Keyboard. But it didn't work. Sprint Chat was helpless, saying I have to go back to the store.

Can anyone help me?

Edit: ^^^What he said

Or you can go to your text messages and tap the area which says 'tap to compose'. Once it's been selected, touch and hold the same area of the screen where you input text for a text message and a box for message options will appear. Then touch input method and go to Touch Input.

Thank u so much. I was having the same problem. Ahhh, back to my old keyboard. I did not like swype at all. I also found myself taking more time in typing with swype.

I have been using swype since the ota, and tired of it picking spanish and other random gibberish. Ieven went thru and deleted my personal dictionary words. I dont have the Spanish dictionary checked. Aggravating...

What? Swype is the coolest piece if cell phone technology to come out in ages. Best update we've seen so far in my opinion.

I guess.

I'd probably agree with you if when I swype "N-E-D" it would spell need instead of ned, or at least give me an option to pick need. I'm guessing there's probably some work around or setting for double letters, but if its gonna be forced bloatware, it should be a lot smarter with default settings. I found slideit to be more user friendly, but then I couldn't find the @ key.

If you draw a mini loop over the e button as you pass over it, swype will know you mean a double e, rather than just a single. Likewise, if you start off from a letter and then swype up above the keyboard before going to your next letter it will captialise the first letter. If you add a loop whilst above the keyboard, the whole word is capitalised.

Im probably forgetting some too. You should run through Swype's tuttotial, it explains it all pretty well.

Well, while on the few times I've been on Swype, you can also spell N-E-D by first pressing on the N, then going a little bit off the keyboard (not too much so it capitalizes the letter), then get on "e", then up again, then down to "d". If I explained correctly and understandably, you should be able to do it, too.! :D

What I don't like about Swype is that, unless someone can tell me differently, it doesn't make suggestions for words when I begin to type. The regular keyboard does after I've used a particular word.

I believe you'll get word prediction from Menu/Language & Keyboard/Word Prediction. Check it.

Now, I'd like to get rid of any help at all with words I'm typing. I've un-checked Word prediction but it doesn't stop.

Help?

Have you unchecked spell correction and prediction?

Have you tried SwiftKey? If you like word prediction you will LOVE SwiftKey!
Last I knew there was a free beta version of SwiftKey X available in the Market.

Thanx, Kennected, I'll try that. Sometimes it doesn't predict, sometimes does. I'm wondering if Swype is different in the new update. I haven't installed anything in months, no updates, no new anything.

Did Swype change with the new stuff? I'm reluctant to mess with my stuff right now!

Thanks for posting this. My son was playing games on my phone, and when I got it back, there was swype. I didn't like it at all. I tried to go to my settings, but couldn't get it changed. A quick search led me here and I got it done. Thx:)

I can't live without Swype. I had it going for over a year, and then after rooting and going to MikG ROM, I was flustered. I could get by, but it wasn't the same.

I found a thread somewhere about downloading various Swype apk files all with different skins. I went with the black one that has the glossy look. Totally awesome!!!

Within a few days, the beta expired, and I was Swypeless :(

So I went with a Swype alternative: TouchPal. I used it for several days, and then ran into a thread on this site this morning with a link to download Swype for ICS (I think that's what it was)

So I am back to Swype...and so far, so good. Will my Swype expire again?
