Root How do I unroot my Droid Razr Maxx

Ok, I know there is an answer to this somewhere but I am not finding it. I rooted my Droid Razr Maxx with Matt's Droid Utility 1.7 for Windows, I haven't disabled or removed any bloatware.

I just received an OTA notification to download and install Jelly Bean.

What should I do? How do I unroot?

Please can someone guide me on how to go about installing JB without turning my precious Maxx into a paper weight?

The OTA is not going to brick you rooted phone. It will either update the phone, or it will fail, depending upon what you've done to the phone since you rooted it.
You need to be in the stock slot (assuming you have SafeStrap installed) and not to have deleted or frozen any system apps.

You will most likely lose root if you don't use Voodoo RootKeeper, but it's been proven that that RazrBlade exploit works on the current JB.

So, be on the stock slot, protect root with RootKeeper, and run the OTA.

I do not have SafeStrap installed, nor do I have rootkeeper. Except for gaining root access and installing wifi tether which needs root, nothing has changed on the phone.

Should I go ahead and update, or install Voodoo RootKeeper that came with Droid Utility 1.7 first?
 
I just rooted last week and havent did anything to else to my phone. Still in the investigating stage. I used the Rootkeeper. It was simple. I backed up root. Temporly unrooted through Rootkeeper. Took the OTA and then went back to Rootkeeper and restored root. It couldnt have been easier.

I was prepared to do the Razrblade method but it wasnt needed.
 
You are absolutely right, I did the same thing. I have updated to JB and re-rooted with Voodoo RootKeeper.

It is so simple a !@#$$% person can do it. LOL
 
Then I must be a complete moron because I installed rootkeeper. I backed up my root and downloaded the update. When the update installs i get the droid guy with the exclamation point coming out of his belly and then it tells me the setup has failed. Any thoughts?
 
I did delete some. I backed them up prior to deleting so I went back in and restored those now when I go to download the new update it says an error occurred.
 
Hm. I'd say make sure you've undeleted and unfrozen any apps you have if you haven't already done so. Is the error the one you referred to above or a different message?

I'm probably not going to be able to offer much advice beyond going back to a clean stock install, but I hope you're able to get this sorted out.

Personally I'm on CyanogenMod and not planning to do anything with the update since apparently it has little practical impact...unless you have a specific interest in it I might recommend ignoring it.
 
I don't know if my experiences will help you or not, but I had a similar situation. My phone has been rooted since I got it a couple years ago. It was rooted, simply to freeze the updater module, so I could remain on 2.3.6 version. The other day, I decided it was time to upgrade to the latest OS, which apparently is 4.1.2 version. I had not added/deleted/changed anything else on my phone. Once I thawed/unfroze the updater, the updates started to occur OTA. I guess at least 2 or 3 updates occurred in the course of an hour or so. When all was done, I was upgraded to 4.1.2 and still remained rooted.

I wouldn't say that I ended up with any major issues, but have a couple minor things that annoy me that I can't seem to resolve. One is the phone no longer announcing the name of an incoming caller like it used to do. The other is not being able to unlock the screen with a simple, easy, left-to-right swipe.
