How do you add books to google books?

Hi

Just got a Nexus 7 tonight but i am having some trouble loading Books onto the Google Books app. Is there some way to put .epub or .mobi into the app so i can use the official Google Books app to read books, i found the way to read in the Kindle app but i really want to use the google app instead.

Anyone know how to do it?

Also i don't live in the US and really want to check out some magazines and movies and such but i can't check it out since i am closed off from the US store. Is there some way to bypass it with a proxy connection or something?

The only books in Google Books are the ones you buy or receive from them...no side loading. There are other reader apps that allow you to load your own books in multiple formats.

Okay thanks, guess i'll just use the Kindle App since Google doesn't want me to use its native app.

The Kindle app will work only with .mobi files. If you want to read books in .epub format (probably the majority at this time) I'd suggest Mantano or Aldiko. To be fair a friend of mine prefers Moon+ Reader but I've never gotten used to it. Mantano has the slickest interface I've seen (there may be better, but I haven't seen it).

I find the whole Ebook concept very frustrating on mobile devices. The Kindle app works great, but only for items directly downloaded from Amazon. The same is true for Google Books. I like to get Ebooks from my local library, and have yet to find a good solution for reading them. There doesn;t seem to be a good way to get the book from the liobrary to a pace on my device that it is accessible. Right now, I have to download it from my library, go into Astro and move the file to a location that the reader will see, and hope that the reader will be able ot read it. I just installed Mantano Lite on my Droid Bionic, and it doesn't read Adobe Epub books. It says it reads Adobe PDF books, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm trying to find a decent solution for my Wife on her Nexus 7, as she is even less patient than I when it comes to things like this.

Any suggestions?

Well, I don't know anything about library lending systems, but I have come to rely upon calibre on my linux box along with various plugins and kludgery of various kinds to eradicate the DRM, then I can use any reader I want rather than being forced to organize by books by where I bought them (which is idiotic):

Thanks for that. I was searching, searching as to why I could not side load. I'll check out other ebook apps.

It is possible to side load books. Login to your Google account at http://play.google.com/books. Click Upload files on the top right and drag or select epub files on your PC. These files will be available in Google Book on your Nexus 7. There is an option to save the book to your device therefore, no Internet connection required to read your book.

I use Aldiko, and Aldiko allows you to browse your tablet for books to import.

I keep books on my NAS (where they are backed up) and copy books to the download folder on my N7 using ES File Explorer then import them from there.
