How do you control running apps?

I had a mytouch 4g before switching to a 9780 and now moving back to an android, used Advanced Task Killer to end apps but always came back up. Now I'm coming across articles such as if you move apps to the sd card they won't reopen and that task killers are useless.

How to you close apps? Is there an app thats 'best' in managing background tasks?

Short answer is you dont manage them, the system manages them for you. Once you leave an app, its cached in RAM for a while and not uses CPU (and only very minimal battery). If you dont reopen the app for some time, they are automatically closed by the system. A task killer is a waste of time and battery, and should not be used with abandon. You should know which apps are safe to be killed, and which ones would just reopen and waste battery in the process of killing and reopening. Actually, the ideal usage would simply be to let the system manage the apps.

As for the question on Gingerbread coming with its own task killer, from my experience it only clears the cached and turned off apps, not the ones that are actually running.

Why you don't need a task killer
