Help How do you do a hard and soft reset?

This may be a silly question... but I was just wondering. Is a hard reset is a battery pull and is a soft reset a "alt +right shift+delete" ?

oh ok. Well since I don't physically have the phone yet... how exactly do you do the soft reset?

A soft reset is basically just turning off your phone and turning it back on. A hard reset is a factory reset.

I've pulled the battery with it on and virgins happened to the phone. Maybe something wonky with syncing something but I haven't noticed it...

Virgins? Really. Can you explain that process please!?

Just power off and on, is a soft reset in android land. Factory reset would be a hard reset and is a complete wipe of the phone back to factory settings.

Yeah that's what I get from other users.

Where as a hard reset on a BB is considered to just be a battery pull on Android its a factory reset

Ya that's why I posted this bc I have to reset my bb once a day. Seems a lot easier to just turn it off then on again. How often should you reset an android device such as the incredible.. ? Also how long does the reboot time seem to be?

Soft Resets by turning power on and off is rather quick. A lot quicker then my BB Storm was (that thing boots so slow)

Battery pull? I haven't had to do it yet. There is no lag with this phone and it has never bogged down on me yet. Got it day before launch.

I was told a hard reset is a batt pull with the phone on and a soft was with it off.

Nope. A hard reset is restoring the device to the factory settings. A soft reset could either be removing the battery while phone is on (not recommended) or powering down the phone and turning it back on.

While some may think that a hard reset literally means "hard" reset (as in, not software but hardware - such as the battery), that is generally not what it means.

According to VZW:

A soft reset is when the battery is pulled WHILE the device is ON.

Correct, a soft reset has no effect on the device's memory. However turning the phone off and turning it back on again (fully shutting down) has the same effect. A hard reset is one that fully wipes your memory / phone to default.
