how do you encode video files?

[khunny7]

Watching video via my Behold2 is my major thing.
But I have to convert the videos and put that in the sdcard when I want to watch something.
Is there a better way?

Plus, I couldn't find any good mencoder front-end for linux.
Can any one let me know an easy way to convert video files on linux? Thank you.
