OK, after having a PIA couple of days of my phone failing to update to JB because of status - 7 error messages, it finally succeeded. The culprit: some time ago I renamed the boot-up animation file in an attempt to halt that annoying flash screen on start-up.
I'm in no hurry to repeat this episode, so I'm wondering what the process is to make a complete backup of the Reverb (so I can archive it somewhere in case I need to restore it to enable some future update) before I start making changes to my phone.
I've searched around and haven't found an answer.
