I never questioned it before. I heard someone pronounce it differently the other day and got me wondering.
It is a topic that seems to be debatable.

From the second link:
So two popular "Americanized" pronunciations for "Linux" have developed. One group (this zealot, for example) claims that proper English would dictate that it be pronounced as "Line-uks" (or "Line-iks", which are similar enough for me not to differentiate between them), with the first part rhyming with "pine".

The second popular "Americanized" Linux pronunciation is "Linniks" (or "Linn-uks", again similar enough that I group them together) rhyming with "cynics" (thanks to this guy for that analogy). This version "rolls off the tongue" for me and sounds "right". I think the first time I saw the word "Linux" without thinking about it I assumed it was pronounced this way and it stuck.

Being an English speaker I rhymed it with the creators name "Linus". Apparently I was wrong.

I thought Mr Torvalds name was pronounced 'Leenus', but I could be wrong.

Wait a minute ... Is that "Ly" as in Lynn or "Ly" as in Lysle? Is that "Lin" and in Line or "Lin" as in Linear?

Life is so much simpler with Unix. (You nicks). :p

U reckon? :D
Would that be good old vanilla SysV from Bell Labs, or BSD from Berkley?
And then Sun joined the party.

Everyone that has been around the areas where I work, have always pronounced it "Lynn - icks" or "Len" - "icks" just to make it clear...

to me, it was just an upgrade of the word "Unix" with "Lin" in front of it... and with that, I never gave it another thought.
