To root my Cricket Samsung Galaxy Discover (actual model is Samsung SCH-R740C), I did the following...
- Enabled USB debugging on the phone (system settings > developer options)
- Installed Samsung USB driver pack(
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...ng_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.14.0.exe)
- Installed Samsung Kies (
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/SW/201302/20130220165326135/KiesSetup.exe)
- Installed UnlockRoot Pro (free version -
http://downloadcdn.betterinstaller.com/installers/9/9/UnlockRoot_downloader_by_UnlockRoot.exe)
(read the information as it begins to install so you don't install unwanted software with it. Just keep clicking "skip" until its ready to install)
- Plug phone into PC and get past lock screen if enabled
- Open UnlockRoot and click "Root"
If it is successful, it will say so. If not, unplug the phone from PC and try uninstalling the phone from device manager on your PC (right click "my computer" and go to properties > device manager to find the Samsung device in the list. Right click the device and click "uninstall"). Then plug the phone back into your computer, open UnlockRoot and see if it works again.
Try running UnlockRoot before installing the Samsung drivers and Kies, just in case you're lucky and don't need them.
