How Do You Turn Off The G1's Speaker?

I recently mail-ordered a USB-RCA Connector, because I wanted to listen to the music on my G1 through my stereo speakers and the stereo only has an RCA input for auxiliary devices.

After I connected the cord and switched my input to AUX, nothing comes through the stereo's speakers: music still plays from the G1's puny speaker.

How can I fix it so that the music will play through the stereo speakers?
