This may sound dumb, but where and how do i get music onto my phone???

There are no dumb questions, just dumb answers. Connect your phone to PC via USB cable and mount it as USB drive (it would ask or you'll see the option if you open the notification bar). It doesn't matter where do you put the music files, music player will scan whole card and import everything.

Remember its easier to answer a dumb question than to fix a stupid mistake!!!!!

The other way, is to take the sd card out, fit it into a card reader and fit it to your computer. Then load up. I have often taken my sd card out and asked friends to down load stuff there . Then i just fit the card back into the phone,
