How does shared data plan work for Single users?

So you just pay for data and everything else is free?

Right now for minutes, texts, and unlimited LTE I am paying $88 with fees and taxes.

Are we just paying for data plans now?

So if we want 4GB of LTE, then our plan would just be the $70 + taxes and fees?

I'm pretty sure you have to pay the line access fee which is $40/mo for a smartphone, then the $70 for 4GBs of data. So it looks like $110 unless you qualify for a corp discount on the data pkg.

There are other options, like get together with a bf/gf or family members to get more people on the plan. That should enable you all to save a little.

Nope it would be 70 +40.

Wow.. thanks for info. Not single friendly.

I'll have to stick with my Galaxy Nexus for a long time to keep my perks I guess.

Or buy a phone elsewhere or at retail price from VZW. As long as they don't subsidize the phone you can keep your unlimited.

The new plans are definitely not single friendly at all, and they have just lost my husband, because he needs a new phone and will not pay full price just to keep unlimited data.

He can get a subsidised if unlimited data is not important to him, or is he switching to Sprint to get thier unlimited data?

I'm guessing that unlimited data plans will eventually go the way of the dinosaurs for all carriers. For example if all the heavy data users go to the last carrier to offer unlimited, they will overwhelm thier network and they will loose many of thier customers.

4G will be the death nell for unlimited data.

Best of luck to you,

He is indeed going to Sprint. He is not a heavy data user, which is why he objects to paying $90 for a 1gb smartphone plan. He uses about 300 minutes, 100 texts, and just under 1 gb data each month.
He is annoyed that he has been with VZW for over 10 years and now they are "throwing individual plans/users out with the trash" (his words).
I can understand how the single phone/plan customer feels that way.

I don't think heavy data users want to pay it either. Verizon has pretty much stopped offering individual plans, and when they do they prison rape you.

Since he is an existing customer, he should be able to keep his existing plan, and not be forced into the Share Everything plan... He will just have to get the tiered 2GB plan...

I think you're missing the fact that he does not have to give up his current plan. He can keep everything as is. If he chooses to take a subsidized phone though, he will just lose unlimited data and moved to tiered data NOT Share Everything.

Yeah Verizon is winning big time. Part of the cost of your bill is meant to recover the subsidy the carriers give you on your phone. Since you bought your own phone without subsidy your bill should be cheaper.

Is it possible for you and your husband to get a family plan and share data? Possibly this would work better, I don't know cuz it depends on what other requirements you have.

I know that in my case because my wife and daughter and myself are light data users, (about 2 to 2-1/2 GBs) and we all have smartphones) we can actually save about $8 per month switching to the shared data plan. But we also were on a 1400 minute family plan and have a nice corp discount thru my wifes employment.

Best of luck to you, :smokingsomb:
