How does storage work?

So I got my first Android phone (HTC One X) the other day. I can't quite figure out how much storage I have on my phone. In settings, there are 2 screens, one says "internal storage" which has like 2 GB, AND and the other one is "phone storage" and has 9 GB. What's the difference? How can I make everything download to phone storage, and because it looks like most my apps are going to internal.

Welcome to Android, Internal Storage is your apps storage. This is the place where all of your apps are stored. Phone storage is where pictures, music, documents, etc are stored. I don't think you can change where the apps are stored. Sounds like you have 16BG of total storage altogether. Everything that's not an app., will be stored in phone memory, unless you have a SD card. If you do, then there should be an option to select the location for storage.
