How does upgrading through a 3rd party work?

Places like walmart or letstalk or wirefly or whatever have the phone I'm looking at (Epic 4G Touch) for cheaper than sprint directly. I'm eligible for a full upgrade but I also need to switch my line to a different account. Can I do that through a 3rd party vendor or will I be forced to go through Sprint and pay the higher price for the phone?
 
I got mine at Best Buy (previous phone at Radio Shack), and it is just like doing it at a Sprint store if your upgrade is available.
 
Upgrading at a third-party store is just like going through Sprint. They have access to the same account tools and can pretty much do everything Sprint can. My fiance bought her phone and ported her number to my account over from AT&T at a Radio Shack, so it's not a problem.
