Help How good are google at handling faults and warranty issues?

I have a galaxy s3 on contract in the uk - my first android after years with the iphone. Very impressed but there is something about Nexus devices that really interests me and given the great price of the Nexus 4, I may switch. One thing that I'm uncertain on is how google would handle any problems with the phone, anything requiring repair or warrenty replacement? Clearly they have no stores to go to, do they do doorstep swaps or do you have to send it back then wait a week to get a replacement? With my S3 being on contract I know I can take it to the network if anything goes wrong, maybe even get a courtesy phone while its fixed, and thats something I'd be a little worried about loosing if I went Nexus. Spent too long in the cushy apple world I think!

Any problems with my Nexus 7 were swiftly dealt with. (I'm in UK, but since their distribution centre is in the Netherlands I guess it's the same for the EU.)

They send you a replacement device, and once that arrives, they also send a pre-paid parcel in which you send back your old device.

In fact, as luck would have it, my replacement N7 was also defective, so they sent me a third and I returned the two faulty ones after I was in possession of a working unit

So while I've had my fair share of problems, their customer service has been excellent - always been an extremely polite and helpful American guy on the phone answers straightaway.

What your asking I think, is how are they with replacements after the 14 day period? As in Warrenty issues?

I can tell you from experience with the Galaxy Nexus, one word...Terrible! Google gave me such a headache with getting a replacement for a faulty unit that started acting crazy after only one month of owning it. Back and fourth, back and fourth...send us your unit, then in 2 weeks we'll send you another, just pure insanity! Nothing like dealing with a carrier which IMO is fairly simple.

However I've heard rumblings that it was more of a Samsung issue and not really a google issue with getting things done. And recent news is that Asus and Google worked very closely together to help people keep things moving quickly as far as ironing out issues with faulty issues....Lets hope that trickles down to how things will run with LG and the Nexus 4!
