How i reinstall android OS

Hi guys,
i am using Samsung galaxy y with android OS 2.3.6 gingerbread but unfortunately my OS is corrupted due to unknown reasons. SO now i want to reinstall same OS version Can any body guide me how i do this. I also try to do with Samsung kies but it only gives the upgrade option so its not a helpful for re installation of Android OS. Kindly guide me.

Thnx for reply......... i am also saw these post but didn't fined helpful. can you guys elaborate the term ROOT. The concept of re-installation in my mind is as i instal windows OS on my desktop or laptop computer so if i m right just tell me how i reinstall android same version as i have before. The concept of re-installation of android OS either same as windows or different???????????
 
hello asifjanjua root is basically "admin" , giving you access to most areas otherwise restricted, welcome to android forums

After rereading this post, I think what you are wanting to do can be accomplished by doing a factory reset. If you look in the Galaxy Y area you will find instructions how to accomplish that. A factory reset will take your phone back to it's original state. I hope this helps and good luck to you.
 
hi thnx for reply guys ok last ans is looking cool now i have ambiguity about my phone contacts ,msgs and data. Is i lost all these things after resetting factory or not. please guide me.
 
hi guys,

as per instructions i have reset the factory of my phone but it erase all my data in phone contacts and msg etc. but i have enabled the google backup and restore data options of my phone. kindly guide me how i resotre that backup using wifi network.
