Find the correct HTC ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU) for your phone. Unless your bootloader says "S-Off" at the top this must be one that was made for your "cidnum" (if you set up fastboot on your computer and put the phone in fastboot mode then the command "fastboot getvar all" will tell you this, otherwise if you know what region/network it was originally sold for we can work it out). It also must not be older than the current firmware, so any info you have on that (such as what it says on your hboot screen about versions) will help.
The RUU is a Windows executable, so once we've found one you download it to a PC, put the phone in fastboot mode, connect via USB and run the RUU.
That said, how come adb is working? There are only 2 ways that's possible:
1) the phone is in recovery mode and you have a custom recovery. But that isn't a black screen.
2) the phone is booted into Android, screen unlocked and USB debugging is enabled. That's not a black screen either.
So I wonder whether the problem isn't the screen (or screen driver). What exactly happens when you power it on, step by step?
Also how did it get into this state? That info may help suggest a resolution.
