How is T-Mobile compared to Sprint

I have Sprint and I would give them a perfect score, but for the following issue:

Every time I am inside a building at my university, I'm roaming. This is really the only place I'm at frequently where I'm roaming. Perhaps Sprint's signal has a hard time penetrating certain buildings? Sprint really needs to get their signal together.

I'm wondering if T-Mobile service will do any better.

Luckily, there's always Wi-Fi there, so I can still get texts, surf the web, and get important e-mails. If Sprint would start a Wi-Fi calling program, that'd be great!
 
"Building penetration" capability is all relative. T-Mo, in my region, gets full bars all over however it suffers inside certain structures...unlike my AT&T phones. However at my new job site, "all carriers" suffer from weak signal "inside the building", including my AT&T phones, except for T-Mo...but I'm thinking its due to the fact that a new T-Mo cell site went up less than 2 miles away. Proximity to the carrier's access points will affect penetration ability.

FWIW, my co-worker, who sits next to me, has an EVO 4G, and it sits at 0-1 bars all day. My T-Mo Defy has 3-4 bars...but again, that's just this one building. Outside, we both get "full bars".

...also, not all phones are created equal, regarding reception.
 
I'm a T-Mobile user who intends to move to Sprint soon. T-Mobile doesn't have 3G coverage in my area. Sprint's 3G coverage map includes me, so I'm optimistic and surprised, given that I live in the middle of nowhere.

Just make sure it's not roaming coverage, or you'll be limited to 300 MB of usage per month and won't get Any Mobile, Anytime unlimited calling.
 
There is no way you can gauge "who is better" when it comes to cellular service. I worked in the telecom business and its more up to the individual and where they use their service. Most phone companies give a 15 or 30 day trial period in which you can find the service that fits you best. So i would advice you to take advantage of the trial period and see if it lives up to your expectation or return it without an ETF. Restrictions may be applied.
 
The best cell service is kinda relative...If there was one carrier with the worlds greatest service they wouldnt try to sucker in customers with thier phones/discounts on them. For every 10 people with x service that love it, theres 10 more that have it and are ready to jump ship
 
It's all about finding a carrier that fits your personal needs.

I think about leaving Sprint for T-Mobile because their coverage is slightly better than Sprint's in my area. This might not be true for other people.

Lot of variables when it comes to cell coverage.
 
All relative. I'm in the philly area. I manage our sprint account ($26k/yr) and thinking of switching us to tmob. Will save $6k/yr, have unlimited everything and wifi calling which is a big plus for us sales reps in hospitals where cell coverage can stink. I'm playing (demoing) with a sidekick 4g now and have a samsung epic as my reg phone. So far the sidekick has it beat in network speed in similar places where i'm averaging 5-8mb/sec and sprint is giving me 3mb/s. One such spot is the office where we need an airrave for good service.

And for people wanting to switch to sprint, do check out the latest coverage maps and sprint forum over at howard forums. A lot of their coverage in the western part of the country is going bye bye due to expiring agreements. So you might be sol as those agreements expire and don't get renewed. Kinda makes them look like a halfway decent regional carrier. But they do seem to be laying nice groundwork for the future on the 4g side.

On the smartphone side they'll soon have three 4+ inch slates (htc, moto & sammy), two 4+ inch sliders (sammy & possibly lg), a touchscreen bb bold, the droid pro and a few other premium-ish phones. Tmob is a bit lackluster in this department. 4g slide, really? Ooo...a nice camera but small screen and lame keyboard (no # row or cursor keys). Sidekick 4g? Decent phone hampered by a goofy design and small screen. The g2x is nice. Then what? That's my big hesitation. Lack of phone choice on tmob.
