How is your browsing experience?

Dolphin HD has just released an update that improves ICS performance and stops any FC's or lockups. Something to remember for when ICS lands for us in Prime land. :)

As much as I am appreciating the ICS experience on my Galaxy Nexus, I think it'd be best to reserve judgement on the T-Prime until we have Android 4 on it.

Those of you jumping ship for the ipad may find the gap between the two devices has narrowed considerably on Jan 12.

I'm using DolphinHD as my default browser and so far so good. I'm using it in desktop mode and synchronizing my bookmarks with my desktop using Xmarks. Love it!

Perhaps the iPad 2 is just way better than the OG iPad, but I'm quite familiar with the checkerboard patterns that Safari produces on the OG iPad. I've had Safari crash on me as well. My point is that the iPad isn't perfect either. iOS has been out for several years now, whereas Honeycomb is really in its infant stage, and an EOL OS at that, with ICS coming next week for the Prime. The great thing is that we have the choice, even though Apple would like to destroy that choice through the courts. I own an iPod 3G, a Macbook Pro, just gave my wife my OG iPad, and she has my Mac Mini. So I've been an Apple fan, just not to the point that I wish to support them anymore due to their corporate practices. I AM glad though that we have choice, and some will be happy with the iPad. Me, I'm absolutely loving my Prime. Is it perfect? No, but for my money it is the best thing out there right now, and Asus is supporting it with software updates pretty well.

As an alternate suggestion, I just learned that Maxthon has an Android version of their browser. I downloaded it last night and liked it immediately. It seems quicker than Dolphin, and Flash works as good, whereas Flash is hit and miss in Opera Mobile. Maybe someone else would like to try it and see what they think. I read about it from a reviewer somewhere. It's been a browser for the PC for years now.

I lived with the iPad2 for about 12 days....I NEVER saw the checkerboard pattern.

Also, are y'all setting your browser to flash "on demand"? That helps significantly as the flash "boxes" appear with an arrow in them and they do not load unless you click on them. I know most experienced Android people know this but just thought I would throw that out there to those that don't. And the browser I use on my phone is Dolphin mini.....which is a stripped down version of Dolphin....still the fastest one I have ever found and has enough features on it that I need. Is Dolphin Mini available on the Prime???

Well the iPad 2 does have a much faster processor than the OG iPad, so it should work better. Still, I've handled version 2 and just don't want to do the Apple route anymore.

As for Opera Mini, I saw it as a choice when I downloaded Opera Mobile.

i downloaded dolphin hd and find it lagging compared to the stock browser. i found it slow to respond to clicking on links and would hang when scrolling a site. didn't have the problem with the stock browser. also, it wouldn't load the videos (maybe flash) on the espn website like the stock browser would.

Hmm, maybe I'll have to give the stock browser a try again, post updates. When I first got my Prime, I only had one update available. That was on Dec 30. I initially used the stock browser and it was horribly sluggish. Maybe things have been tweaked now.

I'm finding that Maxthon is way faster than Dolphin HD or Opera Mobile. It'll be hard to pull me from that one right now. But on my Epic 4G Touch I find that I prefer the stock browser, as it is much quicker. Choice is good though.

I only have one problem while browsing. When I click on a YouTube video that is embedded into a site it tries to play the video in the browser. It skips through the video quickly and with no audio. It also doesn't even give the option to play the video in the YouTube app. I don't know if I'm missing something, but it is really annoying.

Ok im back on my laptop .. which says something in itself. When my wife asked for her ipad back i had the choice of getting on my laptop, or picking up my prime.

Stuff going through my head

I think i am discovering the Prime might be slightly too large for my liking.

I always knew Apple had solid products, but i thought by having the newest and best android tablet would at least have a similar experience. It does not.

Im an android fan through and through .. cant tell you how many isheep i have ripped apart in my time! I love Android for what its capable of, all the options, all the settings .. but there is something about not having those settings that is sexy. I dont have to worry about what browser performs best, no worry about wifi analyzing, wallpaper cropping, etc.

I think for my phone i absolutely must have an android phone. I am constantly tinkering, changing, trying new things, etc.

But for a tablet i don't necessarily want to be bothered with any of that. I want to pick it up and use it. Be productive, or kill time, and move on. Surf web, check emails, maybe a few apps, facebook. Thats the extent of my tablet usage. With the exception of email, i think the iPad is leaps ahead of Android for them.

damnit now i have to start thinking about return policies, my case and protector are ordered and on the way ... also spent like $20 on Tegra games :(

CRAP ! whats happening to me!!

Err.....................can you say "Ice Cream Sandwich" ?

One of the first things I noticed on the Xoom is how scrolling and panning pages and just UI in general was not as smooth as the iPad 2. I was expecting much better results on the Prime and it is smoother than the Xoom but still not as smooth as iPad 2. With the hardware specs of the Prime 2 it must be an OS issue.

Using the default browser things seem a step behind. Input seems laggy as well as scrolling. Im going to try out the Dolphin HD today and see how that it but Im expecting it to be similar.

I have hope that ICS will improve on this however Im also wondering if there have been so many changes and additions that so many issues that they will outweigh the improvements. I hope not.
