Help How long is it safe to leave Note 3 in Desktop Dock?

Hi

I have just bought a Samsung Desktop Dock. OK so it's a convenient place to keep your phone while working at a computer which lets you see the phone's screen at a nice angle and charge the thing at the same time...

BUT

a) It is bad to let the phone charge too long on it?
b) Must I let the phone drain significantly before putting it back on charge?
(i.e. will constant re-topping up be bad for the battery?)

If true this would make the doc a BAD place to leave the phone for too long.

With thanks

J

P.S. Can anyone tell me why the Galaxy Note 3 has a wider set of contacts than the Note 2? (i.e. Does it matter if I attach a normal MicroUSB connector, rather than with the wider connector that comes with the phone ?)

FWIW, I have tried attaching my Note 3 to my PC (Win 7x64) but nothing seemed to popup nor be installed - is that normal?

Mind you I'm far from an expert but I have a desktop dock and I keep my Note 3 in it all day while I am at work as I also use it as my clock/agenda/alarms/reminders during the day and I haven't seen any downside to it so far.
As to the connection being wider, that's so that you can connect the USB 3.0 cord if you so choose but the narrower USB 2.0 will also work and won't hurt your Note 3.
I have never been one to worry about letting my phone's charge drain significantly before recharging. Some folks agree with me and others strenuously disagree. I have never had any problems with my phone battery degenerating over the course of a two year period to the point where it won't hold a charge and I don't swap out batteries. I get a good 12-15 hours of light to moderate use out of my phone between charges on the weekend when I am away from the dock so I would say that it is not necessary to let it drain down before recharging again or keep topping it off either. Just charge as you feel like it. But that is my opinion.
Again, please remember that I am not an expert, just a common everyday owner of a Note 3 who loves her phone.
