How long to make an app , help please

Hi there, i'm about to hire programmers to help me build an android texas poker app but i'm confused as i have picked 2 and deciding who to hire.

One(programmer 1) says that he can complete it in 2 weeks and the other(programmer 2) says he needs about 2 months.

Programmer 1 says that he can complete this in 2 weeks because he will be totally dedicated to my project and spend about 9 hours a day.

Programmer 2 says that it's not possibale to create/build an app in just 2 weeks and needs alot of work to be done like graphics, programmings, testing the app out and also he says that programmer 1 might be or will be using a pre made script and that's why he could complete this in just 2 weeks and also it will have many bugs and errors.

My reason to ask this is because programmer 1 qoutes 3x lesser and is well within my bugdet. Programmer 2 is asking for a higher price saying that there is more work to be done and it's not an easy task etc .

So you can guys please tell me if the above is true? Can't someone create a game like texas poker in 2 weeks? if that person is totally dedicated in the project?

I will really appreciate your help in this ,thank you

Programmers program. Graphics ect. Is done by someone else.

I could program a Texas poker game in a week, given graphics and sound files. It'd be a lot of work, and it would be a single player teak proof of concept app, but it'd be done lol

As Boyo1991 says, a proof of concept is feasible in a week, but a fully tested, ready for play-store game, 2 months would be the minimum I'd think.
I'd want to see a portfolio of previous work, and talk to previous clients (for both candidates). Two months seems more likely if starting from scratch. Bear in mind that testing can (and arguably should) take more time & effort than coding. If developing from scratch, design & testing should take around 70-75% of the time between them, and coding the remaining time. This is based on developing for Unix in C and C++ with Sybase SQL and Java for PCs. Using a decent IDE and (Eclipse/ADT) the coding is a comparatively small part of the development process. Get the design right/UI right, and the coding is straightforward. Testing is time-consuming (including time spend writing test cases and documenting the results), but necessary to prove that the code works as intended.

Unlikely in two weeks, Unless he's done something similar before and has most of the code already. I'd want to see a portfolio, and talk to previous clients. Hence if programmer #1 assumes he's only there to program, I.e. do the code.. then yeah easy as cake but I agree here testing and design will take much longer

What programmer 1 told me was that he could get the graphics ready in 2-3 days and the rest would be on coding, and he says he has not done something like a poker app before. He asking price is right. I also had other that told me they have some kind of script/codes ready to use and only needs to customize it more to my liking or adding more functions/features etc. some say they need 2 week, some say 3-5 weeks and some say 2-4 months. so who really here is the qualified person? lol

I don't want to hire the wrong person and waste my money. But what i think is that those that say they need weeks already have some codes done and ready, and those that says months need to start from scratch? what do you think?

All I can really say is what's been said. Ask for portfolios and see if they have any works that match what your looking for (server and client connection for multi user) see if graphics are okay, see if you find any bugs ect. Good idea to see if they use the language you want to use as well (for android its java or c++ if its an intensive program..)

And please, there's already forty-seven hundred Holdem apps and abzolutely zero Omaha apps... the market is calling you.

There's WSOP which lets you play Texas Hold'em and Omaha but yeah you're right, we need more standalone Omaha apps.

just curios how did you know that there are 47 hundred holdem apps already around? i can't seem to find that info

He just means that there is A LOT of Texas hold'em apps out there compared to Omaha ones :)

Noone can answer that. Id want a programmer with a share in the business (10% if pos') because a well polished app is so more addictive
