How much data do you use?

I plan on getting my Droid X in August when I can use my $100 credit that is on my account. But I am worried about the data caps that Verizon is going to be putting in place sooner or later. About how much data are the majority of X users consuming per month? I know its about 5x more...I read that. but 5x more than what? i just want to be able to get a good plan with out just going for the one with the most data.

AFAIK there is no limit. If they do start doing tiered data plans it'll probably be with 4G. I was worried about that too, but when I spoke with VZW they said we'd get grandfathered into unlimited plans. I've had m X less than a week and I've used about 200Mb

Well supposedly they will start data capping plans this month. People with the 29.99 plans will be grandfathered in untill they renew their contract. Also the data usage with the X's will drop once the WOW factor blows over. If your worried about using too much data, just try to make sure you use the WIFIs.

I have the same concerns as you...

But, you know after going through my statements and checking my data usage. I'm not AS worried. I use my Smartphones very, very, VERY heavily. But I am below the highest limit even in the first months of new phones. (Of what would be the guess of the highest limit)

If you tether I could see an issue, but the plan for tehtering will eliminate that.

But really, you should be fine. IMO.

i depends on your situation. I live out in the middle of nowhere. I dont have wifi at home or at work. I use my phone for all my surfing/radio/youtube/ everything. I DONT tether and use 4 to 8 gigs a month. with the bigger screen i will be eating data like no other. I hope i get grandfathered in. I pay full price for phones so wont be changing plans or taking upgrade promos. I pay for unlimited so i use it as it is unlimited. they will have to make me change my plan to a tiered plan if they wont me to slow down. I think its a backwards step in the future of smartphones. If they dont want me sucking as much data as i can WITHOUT TETHERING. they should not give me a phone that can do it. you pay for it. use it until they make us go tiered. then we will deal with it.

use wifi....use wifi...use wifi....everyone dont have access. why dont i move you ask? yeah that dont cost a thing. let me go shake my money tree. hehehe :D:D:D i wish i really did have access to wifi all the time. Its alot faster than 3g. But my 3g is faster than dial up. ugggg

enjoying my verizon wireless unlimited plan and my DROID X!!!
xoxoxoxoxo verizon....for now

when I was on windows mobile and black berry phones, my monthly data usage has been less than 500MB for as long as I can remember (I've been on smartphones with data plans since 2003).

When I switched to the Droid last November, my data usage has been between 2GB to 7GB. Eliminating the outlayer months (i.e the lowest and highest), then my average is right around 3.5GB/month

My brother (he's a line on my plan) was averaging about 300MB/month when he was on windows mobile. Now that he is on a droid, he is also averaging 3GB a month.

I am using about 30 mb a day, which is translating to 900 mb a month - less than a GB. But no way I will give up the unlimited, esp if it got root for tethering :)

You actually don't need to root for tethering. EasyTether and PDANet apps easily do that. I actually tested it with EasyTether myself and it works.

How much does streaming radio use. I like to use Slacker radio a lot.

i have a paid pandora account. I think its around 20 or so megs an hour to stream radio constantly. I streamALOT. i maybey use 2gigs just on streaming music a month. hours a day we are talking. an audio out cable in car/at home. always streaming. its easy to hit 5+ gigs a month. EASY.

who needs wifi?

On the original OP, I've used about 80-90 MB in less than a week last time I checked. I don't watch videos or use Pandora that much so I can't imagine myself going too far...until I tether, hehe.

I am curious how much data is used when having an email set up where email is sent to your phone? I've had alot of smart phones and every person i ask gives me a different answer

Also the data usage with the X's will drop once the WOW factor blows over.

Maybe, then again my last billing cycle ended two days before I got my X. So all the data consumed was on my original Droid that I've had since last Nov (so the wow factor had diminished some). I still used just shy of 3GB. Looking back I see I had a low of 1.2GB in Feb and a high of 3.92GB in May.

With more and more apps gaining the ability to sync back to the cloud coming in the next few updates I see my usage only going UP and not down..

I hope they grandfather unlimited customers when they do go to a tiered plan for data. With my LG Dare, I averaged 200 Mb a month. With my Eris, I averaged 700 Mb per month. With my Droid X (which I've only had 2 weeks), my data is at 1.5 Gb today, with another week on this months bill!

I don't stream music. That's mainly from browsing, YouTube (not much though), and downloading apps and a few files.

I don't use blockbuster, but I play a lot of youtube, get a lot of emails, and stream radio and such a LOT.

With the economy the way it is it's not a good time for the big red to raise prices or get rid of unlimited plans. People will get overage bill and drop the service all toghter. I know I wouldn't have a smart phone if I had to pay more than the thirty bucks I am paying now!

Well the good thing is they aren't getting rid of unlimited plans so don't worry.

Or you can download the verizon wireless app and get the official usage from verizon...

After the update the verizon app comes pre installed.
