How much data is used when downloading an app?

This may be the dumbest question asked on here, but Im asking it honestly, haha.
Let's say I download an app of 120 megabytes.
I know thats the amount of memory, but is it also the amount of data used while downloading it?
If I had 500 megabytes of data left on my plan (I have unlimited, this is just hypothetical), and I download said app of 120 megabytes, would I then only have 380 megabytes left?

That's how I understand it

As ChanCahn05 said, remember to include the data used in opening Play Store, and searching for the app. But why not use WiFi when you can, it's probably quicker unless you're on 4G.

Thanks guys! I have unlimited as I said (but I still use Wi-Fi when possible as straight talk has me on a nearly constant throttle) but am considering dropping ST for an internet bill on my computer instead and just use WiFi on my phone for calling/texting/data. Looking at Bluefire for $60 per month for 10gigs to split with my parents, but knowing that, I'll keep downloading apps with my work place's WiFi and just browse at home.

Also keep in mind that when downloading, data is also transferred from your phone to the site you're download from.

It's a small amount, but will still count towards your data. This is a rough guess, but for a 120 megabyte file you could upload around 1MB. I believe it's mostly for verification that you received the data.
