Help How much MicroSD memory did I need?

I have a stock Galaxy Ace phone that I'm thinking of rooting and adding the CyanogenMod too

I have seen several sites that explain the rooting and flashing OS process

I saw one page that mentioned using a larger Micro SD card that was partitioned, to allow part of the memory to expand the operating system RAM, which is quite feeble.

My question is, how much more can it handle with only an 800mhz processor?

I understand that I won't be able to remove the Micro SD card after doing this, so it's a one shot deal. The Micro SD also holds all my music, pictures, etc. Space was never a problem for this most times.

Would an 8GB card be enough for the new OS, expanded memory, and storage?
 
There are 2 instances for which you can partition your card, first and which is the most popular is for the internal memory, since this phone has such a tiny memory, its almost impossible to actually use it without more space, second is for increasing RAM, very few people do it and there are very limited ways of accomplishing it, mostly because it puts a heavy stress on the sd card.

As far as what i know, the card size depends on your needs, i use a 500mb additional partition for internal memory on an 8gb card, i could have easily made a full 1gb but i don't need that much space.
Similarly you can use the 2gb card and make a 250mb partition, its upto you. However it is not advisable to use a ludicrously large partition on a small size card, you can make a 1gb partition on an 8gb card or a max 500mb on a 2gb card, i don't exactly remember the reason for this limitation but i did read it in several places.
For RAM or SWAP partition you can use any card as long as its a high speed class, class 6 or above, swap partitions are usually very small compared to internal memory partitions.
There is a PSN mod that converts the entire internal memory into a swap partition and uses the sd card partition as the internal memory, look it up.

And this is not a one shot deal, you can make a backup of your sd-ext partition through a custom recovery, format/repartition your card and restore your backup on it.
But it is true that you will not be able to remove the card from the phone as long as the phone is switched on and you won't be able to turn your phone on until you reinsert the card.
 
Partitioning for internal memory is extremely useful for all ACE users. the phone is quite a waste without it but the SWAP on the other hand is not much useful.
 
I would say buy a Big GB card what ever amount you can afford,I just got a 32gb card for my Ace 2,Will i ever use all that space i doubt it,But its there+if you upgrade your phone you can just keep that card.

All that 32gb card is useless if you don't have enough internal memory on the phone, because a lot of the major apps are stored on the internal memory and cannot be moved to sd storage. So unless you have a big amount of internal memory like on the newer phones, you will have to go for sd-ext methods if you really want to use your phone.

You are here talking about the ACE 2 which has about 3-4gb of internal memory, you really can't imagine the trouble we old ACE users get with only 280mb of internal memory, creating a partition on the sd card is the only option if we want to have more than 10 apps on the phone. :D:D

Also, i think the 32gb card on ACE S5830 or the 'i' variants will cause much more trouble than solving anything, this model does not have a good enough ram to run a big card, it'll cause lags. As far as i know, ACE users have reported that the 16gb cards are running fine but 32gb is causing lags, since a very few people have actually tried 32gb on this phone so the amount of feedback is quite less.
I use an 8gb class 6 card with 500mb dedicated to ext partition, its adequate for me since my music collection is not very large and i don't watch movies on this phone.
 
It really depends on what you are wanting to store on the card,32gb is running fine on the Daughters Ace tons and mean tons of photos and quite a bit of music,I guess if you are wanting to have lots of Big apps on the Ace then the phone isn't really a good choice is it.

Her Ace has lots of games but of course they are not heavy data games.
