Root How to add "APK" file from desktop computer to phone?

OK . so I just rooted my phone (easier than I thought)

now I have a few apps on my computer that I want to put on my phone that i have downloaded

it was my understanding that I could just do a "drag and drop" to the phone when "mounted like a disk drive" and reboot the phone?

or is there some type of program that I need to be working with here ..

Another easy way to install apks to your phone is to email them as an attachment to yourself>open email in gmail app and it will install
