how to block private number?

This is the situation I am in and help me out.
Most of my work phone calls are unknown number and lately I kept getting a phone call from a private number every half hour or so and it only ring once then hang up.
I want to block that private number but not the unknown, I tried couple of apps but it doesn't allow me to just block private number. I have to block unknown, private etc..
You know any app or any suggestion?

AFAIK, it can't be done. I have seen Blacklist/Whitelist add-on programs for other platforms. It might exist out there.

I have asked carriers to block unknowns or specific numbers, and they won't.

You are on the Do Not Call Registry, right? It's weak, but it is a start.
 
I was having the same problem with some pranksters. What you can do is go to settings/call settings/all calls/auto reject/check enable auto reject/ then select reject list and check unknown. Then all unknown/private numbers will be auto rejected. You will still show a missed call. But your phone will no longer ring. They are sent straight to voicemail like the phone is off I believe.
 
I use the paid app "Extreme Call Blocker Droid". With Extreme Call Blocker Droid, there are features to:
1) Block Anonymous Calls [Block calls with no valid number display on screen.]
2) Block Unknown Calls [Block all numbers with no associated caller id in contact list.]

Both of those features don't really have straight forward descriptions to find out if it will work for your needs or not, but the app developers are simply awesome. I've been in contact with them for other things related to their app and they always get back to me within 24 hours providing quick solutions for all my problems. I'd suggest you shoot the developer an email explaining your needs and see what they say.

In my Evo4G, I can't locate call settings to reject unknown and private calls. Please help. Thanks
 
If you have an app called Tasker, which can do many things for your phone, I think you can block private calls only or block unknown calls only. Tasker is a powerful program and is not easy to learn but is well worth the effort. The link below is to some examples of using Tasker to block calls.
