How to change contact type to Google?

So all of my contacts were transferred over from my iPhone by the AT&T store. They are now all on the SIM card, except for a few that I've copied onto the phone.

None of these contacts are syncing with Gmail. After some researching it appears as though only contacts of type Google will sync with gmail. So, how do I convert my existing contacts to Google contacts? I can't seem to find anyway to do that.

Thanks...

I haven't found a way to do this either. I think you can do it with Samsung's Kie (whats it called) software, by exporting them all to the software, deleting from the phone, then importing them back on the phone, but I haven't tried it.

1. android: export all contacts to SD 2. gmail: import all contacts from the file generated in step 1 3. delete all contacts on android 4. (from my sprint htc hero) go to home screen -> menu -> setting -> accounts & sync -> google -> Sync Contact -> Sync now now I got all my contacts in google type. i also turned on auto sync on the phone as well hope that helps

I wiped my contacts off my sim some time ago, because I have them all on Google.

That said, I thought I would try the AT&T Address Book in the Cloud to use as a back up, just to see what it's like. What I found is that it's very slow and contains very few default fields. It does have provision for creating custom fields but it's cumbersome at best.

So I have decided not to use it, and keep everything in Google (which I do have backed up).
